Lease mileage calculator
Am I over my lease mileage? Enter your allowance, how long the lease runs and today's odometer, and you'll see exactly where you stand, the mileage you're on course to hand the car back on, and what the excess would cost at your contract's rate. Works for a car lease, a UK PCP or a mileage-limited insurance policy. Free, no sign-up, nothing saved.
Lease mileage, explained
Am I over my lease mileage allowance?
Your allowance builds up steadily over the lease rather than arriving in one lump at the end, so being over halfway through is not a charge — it is a warning. The figure at the top compares the miles you have actually driven against the miles you were entitled to by today's date, which is the only comparison that tells you anything useful this far from handback.
What happens if you go over the mileage on a lease?
Going over is settled at the end of the lease, charged per mile beyond your total allowance at a rate written into the contract — excess mileage in the UK, overage in the US, the same arithmetic either way. Rates vary enormously between agreements, so read yours rather than assuming; enter it above and the projected charge is shown in money.
Does a lease mileage allowance reset every year?
Usually not. Most leases quote a figure per year but settle against the total across the whole term, so a heavy year can be offset by a light one and only the finishing number is billed. Use the total-allowance option above if your agreement states one figure for the full term — the projection is the same either way.
Can you add mileage to a lease part-way through?
Often, yes, and it is usually cheaper than paying the excess rate at handback — the per-mile cost of buying allowance up front is normally well below the penalty rate. It is worth asking your lease company as soon as the projection above says you are heading over, because the option tends to disappear near the end of the term.
How many miles a day can I drive and still be under?
That is the number this calculator exists to give you. The result works out the daily average that lands you exactly on your allowance at the end of the lease — drive under it from here and you finish inside, whatever has happened so far. It is a far more actionable figure than a total, because it is one you can check against a single journey.
Is a lease different from a PCP for mileage purposes?
Not for this calculation. A lease, a UK PCP and a mileage-limited insurance policy all reduce to the same three things: an allowance, a term, and an odometer reading. The wording on the paperwork differs and so does what happens to the car at the end, but the mileage maths is identical.
